Rainiers Lose To Aces, 5-3

RENO, Nevada - The Tacoma Rainiers (51-47) were bounced in their series finale with the Reno Aces (49-49) by a final score of 5-3 on Thursday night at Greater Nevada Field.

Catcher Garrett Kennedy went 2-for-4 on a pair of singles for the Rainiers only multi-hit performance of the night. Designated hitter Cameron Rupp - recently signed as a free agent and assigned to Tacoma - drew three walks. Right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1x3, 2B, 2 RBI) drove in a pair of runs in the eighth inning.

Tacoma starting pitcher Ross Detwiler (2-3) lasted five innings and allowed five runs on 10 hits (two home runs). He issued one walk and struck out three on 97 pitches (58 strikes) while taking the loss.

Tyler Higgins (1.2 IP) and Dario Alvarez (1.1 IP) held the Aces scoreless over the finale three frames, keeping the game close for the offense. The pair of relievers allowed four hits and struck out six while issuing one walk.

Tacoma returns home to Cheney Stadium to begin a three-game homestand against the Salt Lake Bees on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Rainiers have not yet named a starting pitcher. The Bees will hand the ball to right-hander Griffin Canning (0-2, 8.44).
