Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers recorded their first win of the 2010 season with a 4-0 shutout win over Colorado Springs at Cheney Stadium on Friday.

Led by first-year Rainiers starter Luke French, Tacoma's pitching staff limited the Sky Sox to five hits with six walks and nine strikeouts in the outing. French's six scoreless innings of action and seven strikeouts earned the left-hander a victory and proved to be enough to help guide the Rainiers toward their first trip in the win column.

Relievers Chad Cordero and Mike Koplove combined to record three innings of hitless work with strikeouts out the bullpen.

Rainiers first baseman Mike Carp provided the power for the evening, belting the team's first home run of the season with a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh. Carp was also responsible for driving in Tacoma's first run of the year with a third-inning sacrifice fly that scored Chris Woodward.

Tacoma's Josh Wilson was the only other Rainiers batter to drive in a run after hitting an RBI triple in the sixth.

Colorado Springs starter Samuel Deduno was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with four walks and six strikeouts in a four-inning performance. The start was Deduno's second at the Triple-A level and first since collecting a loss in the Rainiers Pacific Coast League playoff-clinching win over Colorado Springs in the 2009 regular season finale.

Tacoma returns to the field Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. looking to take the lead in their four-game series with the Sky Sox. The Rainiers will also host S.H.I.E.L.D. Night to honor and celebrate the lives of Western Washington's fallen officers.
