Metairie, La. - Andy Van Hekken threw five shutout innings, and the Express took advantage of a four hit, four run sixth inning as they beat the New Orleans Zephyrs 6-0 at Zephyr Field Saturday night. It was the first win of the season for the Express in game three of the four game series.
The scoring in the top of the sixth started for Round Rock (1-2) with a single by Drew Meyer, who then advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Van Hekken. Jason Bourgeois then drove in Meyer on his third hit on the night. After another single by Edwin Maysonet, Brian Bogusevic doubled to bring in both base runners. Chris Shelton then drove in Bogusevic to end the four run inning.
Van Hekken (1-0) earned the win tossing 5.0 scoreless innings, scattering four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Evan Englebrook followed Van Hekken in relief and threw two scoreless frames before giving way to Jared Wells and Jonah Bayliss who each worked a scoreless inning. The Express pitchers never allowed New Orleans (2-1) base runners to advance past second base.
Brian Lawrence (0-1) took the loss leaving the game after 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. Chris Schroder pitched the sixth inning, allowing the four runs and four hits.
Round Rock opened the scoring in the top of the third after a Jason Bourgeois lead off single. He advanced to second after Brian Bogusevic drove a pitch off the outfield wall. Bourgeois then stole third and scored on a Chris Shelton RBI sacrifice fly. Bourgeois then drove in Drew Meyer in the fourth inning.
Bourgeois and Bogusevic were each 3-for-4 at the plate, respectively, with Bourgeois adding two runs and two steal and Bogusevic adding a double and a run. Drew Meyer also picked up two hits and two runs.
Round Rock and New Orleans end their four-game series Sunday at Zephyr Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST. The Express send right-hander Andy Van Hekken to the mound, while the Zephyrs pitcher combat with lefty Hunter Jones.
