Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.- The top five hitters in the Aces lineup combined for 10 hits Friday night, led by John Hester's 3-for-5 night, as Reno defeated Fresno for the second time in as many nights, 8-5, in front of 7,491 fans at Aces Ballpark.

For the second-straight game, Reno jumped out to an early lead then held on for the victory. Tonight, Brandon Allen got Reno on the board in the first with an RBI-single, and the Aces tacked on three more in the third. Allen got things started in the third with a solo home run, and Cesar Valdez and Cole Gillespie added run-scoring singles to make the score 4-0.

After the Grizzlies tied it up with a five-run sixth, Reno responded with three runs in its half of the inning and held on for the victory. Hester drove in go-ahead run with a double off the all in left, and the Aces bullpen did the rest.

Cesar Valdez started for Reno, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings. Four Reno relievers paved the way for Jason Urquidez, who came on in the ninth and struck out the side to earn his first save of the season. Zach Kroenke (1-0) threw 1 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Aces.

The Aces tagged Giants top-pitching prospect Madison Bumgarner for 11 hits and four runs in just three innings of work. Alex Hinshaw (0-1) took the loss for Fresno after allowing two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Allen (2-for-4) and Hester (3-for-5) led Reno, which pounded out 17 hits. Yunesky Sanchez had his second-straight multi-hit game, and Valdez helped his own cause with two hits in as many at-bats.

Game three of this season-opening four-game set is Saturday night at Aces Ballpark, with Aces RHP Bryan Augenstein (0-0, No ERA) toeing the slab against Fresno's RHP Eric Hacker (0-0, no ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and 3,000 fans will receive a fleece blanket courtesy of Silver Legacy/Eldorado.
