Rain Suspends Play In Lynchburg
April 26, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Lynchburg, VA - Intense rains delayed and eventually suspended play between the Wilmington Blue Rocks (12-5) and Lynchburg Hillcats (4-12) at City Stadium on Tuesday night. The delay began in the bottom of the third with one out, the bases clear and L.V. Ware at the plate. The scoreless contest will resume at that point with a 2-0 count on Ware at 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday. A seven-inning nightcap will follow.
Wilmington plans on sending a man with 44 career starts, right-hander Bryan Paukovits (0-0, 3.86), to the hill when the suspended affair resumes. Lynchburg is slated to respond with righty Willie Kempf (0-1, 14.04), who has allowed four homers in 8.1 innings this season.
The seven-inning affair will have Wilmington southpaw Justin Marks (1-0, 5.65) facing fellow lefty Chris Masters (1-0, 0.73). Broadcast coverage begins at 4:35 p.m. as studio host Adam Dobrowolski brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.
PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:
Once the suspended game's stats officially count, Nick Francis has extended his hitting streak to 10 games, the longest by any Blue Rock on the young year. Francis connected on the first pitch he saw from Zeke Spruill for a bouncing single up the middle in the first inning.
Starter Tyler Sample struck out one and walked one over his 2.1 innings. He allowed two hits, both singles, during his time on the hill. Spruill had whiffed five, walked none and hit one batter while allowing only Francis' hit over three innings of work.
This marks the Blue Rocks' second suspended game of the season. The team resumed and eventually won an 11-inning such contest in Myrtle Beach during its first series of the season.
