Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys bats got off to a hot start on Tuesday night but quickly cooled down as the Dash prevailed with a 3-2 win in Winston-Salem. Frederick scored a run in the first and third but left six runners on base through the game's first three innings. The Dash scored all their runs in the sixth and rode their bullpen to the victory. RHP Dan Klein tossed 2 2/3 innings of perfect relief for Frederick in the losing effort. The Keys sit at 7-10 on the year while the Dash improved to 8-10.
With one out in the first, LF Trent Mummey singled to left field off Dash starter, RHP Andre Rienzo. After a wild pitch moved Mummey to second, 1B Tyler Townsend singled him home to give Frederick the early one-run advantage. Five of Townsend's 11 RBI have come in the first inning this season.
LHP Nathan Moreau had no trouble with the Dash through the first two innings of the game. Frederick added another run in the third inning off Rienzo. With two out and 2B LJ Hoes on second, DH Buck Britton singled to centerfield. Hoes scored easily as Britton notched his seventh RBI of the season.
Following the third inning, however, the Keys bats stayed relatively silent.
Through five innings, Moreau did not allow a run on three hits but he ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. 2B Daniel Wagner started the inning off with a bunt single for Winston-Salem. RF Jose Martinez followed up with a Ground rule double to right. White Sox 2009 first rounder, CF Jared Mitchell, tied the game up with a two-run single to center. After Mitchell was thrown out trying to steal second, DH Iac Gac walked and 1B Andy Wilkins doubled to end the night for Moreau. RHP Dan Klein entered for Frederick. On his first pitch of the night, C Jason Bour grounded out to second but Gac scored from third to give the Dash a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.
Moreau allowed three earned runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings pitched. Klein did not allow a hit over 2 2/3 innings of work. He struck out three and walked none.
The Keys could not muster a run against Dash relievers RHP Addison Reed and RHP Taylor Thompson.
Reed improved to 1-0 while Moreau fell to 2-1 on the year. Thompson picked up his second save of the year.
The Dash and Keys return to action on Wednesday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Frederick turns to RHP Ryan O'Shea (1-1, 2.30) while Winston-Salem will start LHP Hector Santiago (0-1, 5.54). First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
