Cleburne Railroaders News Release
WICHITA, Kansas - Angel Rosa notched a double and a triple, but Cleburne couldn't overcome Wichita's four-run 1st inning in a 6-3 loss to the Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Friday night.
Rosa reached three times and scored his seventh run in four games while driving in a run for the eighth time in the last nine games, and Chase Simpson reached three more times with a pair of hits and a walk. But Cleburne stranded 13 runners on base a night after laying down a league-record six sacrifices in the series opener.
Cleburne starter Patrick Mincey gave up six runs - five earned - on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in his 12th start of the year. The first five Wingnuts reached to begin the 1st inning and four eventually scored to open the scoring.
The Railroaders got two runs back in the 3rd inning after Levi Scott and Patrick Palmeiro had back-to-back RBI singles to cap off a two-out rally against Wichita starter Tyler Kane - who gave up just the two runs over five innings in his sixth start of the year.
The Wingnuts added two more runs in the 5th on RBI singles from Abel Nieves and Jon Nester. Cleburne got a run back on Rosa's RBI triple that scored Trevor Sealey in the 8th, but Austin Boyle worked a scoreless 9th inning for his second save of the year.
Cleburne reliever Roman Gomez went two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving up a pair of runs with one walk and two strikeouts.
Palmeiro went 2-for-5 with an RBI and now has four hits in the series, while all nine Railroaders reached at least once and only Trevor Sealey - who reached twice on a walk and hit-by-pitch - did not record a hit on Friday night.
Game 3 of the four-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night, and RHP Dylan Mouzakes will take the mound for Cleburne.
Cleburne returns home on July 27th with a doubleheader against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Tickets and all promo info are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
