Cleburne Railroaders News Release
FARGO, North Dakota - K.C. Huth drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, and Cleburne held on for a back-and-forth, 9-6 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the series opener at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.
Cleburne - which led 6-4 heading to the bottom of the 9th - loaded the bases with nobody out in the 10th before Huth singled and Alex Polston followed suit with a two-run base-hit.
Down 4-3 and to the final out in the 9th, Monger clubbed a triple down the left-field line that scored Hunter Clanin and Angel Rosa and gave Cleburne a 5-4 lead. Levi Scott then singled Monger on the next pitch.
The win was only Cleburne's second when trailing after eight innings this year, and the Railroaders improved to 4-4 in extra-inning games this season.
The Railroaders were held scoreless through six innings before Clanin - who went 3-for-4 in his Railroaders debut - halved a two-run deficit with a solo homer to left.
The RedHawks added two runs in the 7th inning before the Railroaders answered with Trevor Sealey's RBI double and Angelo Gumbs's sacrifice fly in the 8th.
Fargo-Moorhead took an early lead on Tim Colwell's RBI single in the 3rd, and Leobaldo Pina added to the lead with a solo homer in the 6th.
Cleburne starter Jared Mortensen gave up four runs over six innings of work, while Jesus Sanchez pitched a scoreless frame and Patrick Young gave up the two runs in the 9th inning. Shawn Blackwell went 1-2-3 for his 11th save in the 10th.
The Railroaders and RedHawks meet again for the middle game of the three-game set on Saturday night. First pitch time is set for 6:00 p.m., and RHP Patrick Mincey will go head-to-head against LHP Will Solomon.
Cleburne returns home Friday, August 10th to begin a four-game set with the Wichita Wingnuts. All promo info and ticket info can be accessed on www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
