RailRiders Rally for Second Time in Series

(Trenton, NJ) - Before the largest crowd of the season at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, the Buffalo Bisons struck quickly with two runs in the first and second off RailRiders starter Nick Green. But just like game one on Tuesday, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was resilient and eventually tied the game on a Kellin Deglan single in the sixth inning. The last three innings remained scoreless and when they finally got to the tenth, the RailRiders scored two more for a 6-4 win in front of 3,516 people on Pride Night.

A two out rally in the home first started with an infield single from designated hitter Kevin Smith, who stole second base and scored on Tyler White's double down the right field line. Two pitches later, Jared Hoying parked a double into the same spot for an early 2-0 lead. In the second, the Herd loaded the bases with a pair of walks sandwiched around a Dilson Herrera single up the middle. Christian Colon's double play ball around the horn brought in the third run and Cullen Large's opposite field double into left pushed the lead to 4-0.

Bisons starter T.J. Zeuch was at his best on Saturday night, working three scoreless innings before surrendering back-to-back singles to Hoy Park and Trey Amburgey in the fourth. Socrates Brito's sacrifice fly to left brought in his 18th run and got the RailRiders on the board, and then the game changed the next time they came up in the fifth.

Deglan led off with a hard single that deflected off Zeuch's foot, knocking him out of his most effective start and prompting the Bisons to break into the bullpen much earlier than expected. Singles from Andrew Velazquez and Estevan Florial loaded the bases against Casey Lawrence, and Amburgey's second single drove in a pair to make it a 4-3 ballgame. Facing Lawrence again in the sixth, Armando Alvarez doubled and soon scored the tying run on Deglan's base hit into right field.

Both bullpens were extremely effective, with the RailRiders getting two scoreless frames from Reggie McClain before Braden Bristo worked a season-high three innings to extend his scoreless streak to 17 straight. Nick Goody (3-1) later took over for the last two innings as the Bisons could only muster two singles and a walk from the fifth inning on.

Dany Jimenez worked a scoreless seventh despite a leadoff single from Velazquez and Patrick Murphy delivered his best rehab appearance by retiring all six batters with three strikeouts. Velazquez was the starter runner for the RailRiders in the tenth, stealing third base off Hobie Harris (0-1), who picked up two strikeouts around an intentional walk to Hoy Park. His first wild pitch of the season scored the tiebreaking run, and Brito's run-scoring single put the finishing touches on a 6-4 RailRiders win as they reclaimed a 3-games-to-2 lead in the series.

The 12th and final game of the Bisons second homestand starts Sunday, June 13 at 1:00 PM when the Bisons and RailRiders wrap up their only scheduled meeting at Trenton Thunder Ballpark this season.
