Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The Pawtucket Red Sox jumped on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) for six runs early and held serve the rest of the way in a 6-2 win on Friday night at PNC Field. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak, dating to last July, in the series for the RailRiders (7-8). The Red Sox improved to 10-5.
Kyle Davies (1-1) suffered the defeat after allowing six runs on nine hits in three innings. Tyler Webb and Branden Pinder combined for the final six frames, holding Pawtucket to just three hits. Henry Owens (1-0) earned his first win despite issuing four walks. The southpaw allowed two runs on five hits over five innings of work.
The PawSox jumped on Davies early by recording three consecutive hits out of the gate. After rallying back to strike out Bryce Brentz looking, Davies surrendered a two run double to Quintin Berry. Luke Montz followed with a sacrifice fly to left for a 3-0 advantage.
Pawtucket added two more runs in the second inning. Deven Marrero singled and moved to third on a double by Jemile Weeks. With no one out, Jackie Bradley Jr. bounced to second, allowing Marrero to score. Blake Swihart followed with his second hit of the night, scoring Weeks for a 5-0 lead.
The RailRiders cut into the deficit in the bottom of the stanza. Austin Romine worked a walk off Owens with one away and moved to second on a hit by Jonathan Galvez. Slade Heathcott worked the count to his favor and blistered a triple to the wall in right-center. Romine and Galvez scored, trimming the advantage to three.
However, the PawSox countered in the third. Montz hustled a double to begin the inning on a fly ball to left that was lost in the lights. Matt Spring doubled to the alley in left-center, moving Montz to third. Marrero earned the final tally of the night with a sac-fly to left.
Heathcott added two more hits on the night and now owns eight in his last 10 at-bats.
