Norfolk Tides News Release
Tyler Wilson turned in a very strong outing, but three Charlotte pitchers combined to hold Norfolk to seven singles as the Knights washed out the Tides 4-1 Friday night at Harbor Park.
Wilson (1-2) was very impressive despite taking his first career loss in nine outings at Harbor Park. The 25-year-old UVA product allowed a second inning RBI single to Jason Coats but settled down to face just one batter over the minimum over his final four innings of work. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings, lowering his ERA through four starts this year to 3.00.
In nine career starts at Harbor Park, Wilson is now 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA (11 ER, 57.0 IP).
Charlotte starter Kyle Drabek combined with Maikel Cleto (1-0) and Arcenio Leon on the victory, as the trio combined to issue one walk while striking out two. Leon worked the final two frames to earn his first save of the season.
Dan Black had a solo home run in the seventh inning for Charlotte, while the Knights plated a pair of insurance runs in the ninth off of Michael Bowden.
Christian Walker had two hits, a walk and a run scored to lead Norfolk's offense, while Audry Perez added two singles - including an RBI knock in the ninth inning.
The win propelled Charlotte (9-6) into first place in the IL South division, a half-game ahead of Norfolk (9-7).
The two clubs continue their three-game series Saturday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 pm. Mike Wright (2-0, 1.72) gets the start for Norfolk against right-hander Shawn Haviland (0-1, 2.79). Saturday night features the first postgame fireworks show of the 2015 season.
Notes: Prior to the game, Steve Clevenger was placed on the disabled list with a left thumb contusion. David Freitas was added to the roster in place of Clevenger, who injured his thumb while catching during Thursday afternoon's series finale with Gwinnett...Also Friday, Rey Navarro was recalled to Baltimore and Norfolk added infielder Sharlon Schoop from Double-A Bowie...Charlotte's Trayce Thompson made a leaping catch at the center field wall to deny Chris Parmelee of a solo home run in the first inning...Cesar Cabral struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning, giving him 5.1 shutout innings over four relief outings with the Tides this season.
