North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Friday, August 1, 2008) - The Carolina Railhawks announced today that they have traded forward Connally Edozien to Miami FC for young defender Eddie Gutierrez pending League and USSF approval. Gutierrez is expected to join the RailHawks next week when they return from Puerto Rico.
"We are sad to see Connally go," said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. "He is a very good player but we felt it would be best for him to go to a team that was more suited to his style of play. In return we get a player like Eddie Gutierrez that will help shore up our defense and midfield. We are excited that Eddie will be joining us in our late run for the championship."
Gutierrez is a Mexican-American in his first year as a professional player. He was picked up by Miami FC after spending the previous four years with the Fresno Fuego of the PDL. He made his debut with Miami
FC by starting in a 2-0 win against the Puerto Rico Islanders on April 27th at Juan Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, P.R. His strength in the backfield is something that Miami head coach Zinho described as: "One of the highlights of the games in Puerto Rico." So far this year he has played 797 minutes in 11 games with one shot on goal.
The Carolina RailHawks travel to Puerto Rico on Sunday August 3 to face the Islanders for the third time this season. The match can be seen on www.USLLive.com. The RailHawks return home to host the Montreal Impact on Friday August 8 at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this match and all Carolina RailHawks events are available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
