
RailCats Win Game One of Doubleheader; Game 2 Suspended

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats extended their winning streak to five after coming from behind to defeat the Chicago Dogs, 7-6, in game one of Thursday's doubleheader. Game two of Thursday's doubleheader was suspended after the 10th inning with the score tied at 5-5 due to American Association rules stating a new inning can't score after midnight. Game two of Thursday's doubleheader will resume in the 11th inning at a later date.
Chicago (1-11) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the first and second inning in game one. Former RailCat Craig Maddox gave the Dogs a 2-0 lead with a two-run double down into the right field in the first. The Dogs doubled their lead to four on back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Edwin Arroyo and Treysen Vavra.
Gary (7-5) cut the deficit to two on D.K. Carey's two-run home run to left-center in the third. Reggie Wilson drew a leadoff walk before Carey hit the RailCats first home run at U.S. Steel Yard.
The 'Cats trimmed the Dogs' lead to 4-3 with a two-out run in the fourth. With Wilfredo Gimenez on third and Carey on first, pinch-hitter Andy Paz brought home Gimenez with an RBI infield single off the leg of Dogs starter Scott Barnes.
The Dogs went back in front by two with their third straight two-out run in the top of the fifth. Matt Dean recorded hit first hit of the series with a two-out double to left-center before Wilfredo Rodriguez followed Dean with an RBI double to right-center.
Gary took their first lead of the series in game one with a four-run bottom of the sixth. Paz made it 5-4 with an RBI double down the left field line before Andy De Jesus evened the game at 5-5 with a pinch-hit RBI single to center. Mitch Glasser then gave the 'Cats a 7-5 advantage with a two-run single to right-center.
The Dogs cut the RailCats lead to 7-6 with a two-out RBI single from Matt Dean but Gabe Perez got Wilfredo Rodriguez to fly out to Carey on the warning track in the right field corner to end game one.
Adam Quintana (1-1) recorded his first American Association win after yielding a run on two hits in a season-high 2.2 innings of relief while Perez (3) secured the win with his second straight two-out save. Taylor Grover (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.
The RailCats resume their 10-game homestand with the first of three games vs. the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. RailCats RHP Daniel Minor (2-0, 4.20) opposes RedHawks LHP Will Solomon (1-1, 3.27) in the first matchup of the year between the two teams. Friday's game is Princess and Pirates Night and a Fifth Third Bank Fireworks Friday and a Valparaiso Community Night, presented by Fifth Third Bank.
