Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, IN - On March 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the 1% of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world. They succeeded. Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it: TOP GUN.
On Saturday, July 23rd The Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Hobart Jaycees will team up to establish the elite promotion in minor league baseball. Its purpose is to lead the nation in family fun and excitement. They will succeed. Today, the media calls it a baseball game. The fans will call it: TOP GUN NIGHT.
The RailCats will wear uniforms modeled after Maverick's flight suit - including patches, zippers, and a special "Maverick" name plate. Jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with proceeds supporting the Hobart Jaycees Foundation.
This EXCITING night at the ballpark will also include "Top Gun" décor, 80s music, and contests centered on the movie. Fans born in 1986 can receive a free reserved seat ticket to the night's game by singing "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" at the box office. In honor of Goose's backup career, Truck Drivers can receive a free reserved seat ticket to the game with proof of employment. All fighter jets receive free VIP parking (space limited).
As if that wasn't as exciting as a 4G inverted dive with a MiG28, the first 500 fans flying through the gates will receive a special pair of RailCats aviator glasses. Stylish, and perfect for beach volleyball, these glasses won't last long!
Don't hop on your motorcycle and fly away after the game either as there will be a SPECIAL Fireworks show! It'll be the perfect opportunity to cuddle up next to your favorite Top Gun Instructor.
The Hobart Jaycees are a local chapter of the United States Junior Chamber, a leadership training and civic organization for people between the ages of 21-40. Areas of emphasis for the Jaycees are business development, management skills, individual training, community services, and international connections.
