
RailCats Stay Busy on Road with Key Moves

WINNIPEG, MB, CA, July 15, 2015 -The Gary South Shore RailCats, have made a flurry of roster moves prior to tonight's series and road trip opener in Winnipeg. The RailCats have added a pair of position players in IF Sam Lind and IF Jose Sermo, while activating LHP Andy Roberts who will start tonight for the South Shore. To make room for the three players the RailCats have placed IF Alex Crosby, RHP John Kovalik and RHP Matt Solter on irrevocable waivers.
Sam Lind returns to the RailCats, after spending part of the early season with the ball club. The RailCats traded INF Sam Lind to the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League on May 31st after the native of Sioux Falls, S.D., hit .133 in seven games in Gary. The 25-year old lefty had two hits in 15 at-bats and drew two walks, struck out five times and drove in three runs, including a game-winning infield single May 22. Lind originally signed with Gary on the first day of the regular season, May 21. While with Schaumburg, Lind was 13 for 61 with 10 RBI and a .213 average before being released on June 26th.
The RailCats have signed free agent IF Jose Sermo, a former 35th round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 Draft out of Bethany College in Kansas. The native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, began the season with the Frontier Greys of the Frontier League playing in 17 games. He went 8 for 50 with a homerun and 9 RBI with a .160 average. Sermo spent parts of three seasons with the Brewers organization playing in two games in AA in 2014, but spending most of his time at High A Brevard County in the Florida State League. With the Manatees, Sermo hit .221 in 37 games.
Lefty Andy Roberts returns to the rotation after missing his last turn with a blister problem. For the RailCats this season Roberts is 0-4 with a 5.31 ERA.
The RailCats open their eight game road trip with the first of four games against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park in Downtown Winnipeg Wednesday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:905pm with the game carried in Northwest Indiana on 95.9 WEFM and worldwide online at RailCatsbaseball.com.
