
RailCats Pull Away Late, Earn Fifth Straight Win

Gary, IN - The RailCats scored seven times over their final two at-bats to take a 10-2 victory over Kansas City. Gary SouthShore won their fifth straight game to improve to 45-30, while the T-Bones dropped to 31-45.
The RailCats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Christian Vitters lead off with a walk against Kansas City starter Shaun Garceau. Vitters stole second and then moved to third on Cristian Guerrero's ground ball to short. Drew Martinez then delivered a sac fly to left to score Vitters for the RailCats lead.
Kansas City tied it with a leadoff homer from Luis Rivera on the second pitch of the top of the third to even it up at one.
RailCats grabbed the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs. Christian Vitters hammered a triple to right-center to score Ryan Babineau from first. Cristian Guerrero then grounded out to third scoring Vitters to take a 3-1 lead.
Kansas City cut the lead in half with a solo homerun by Jairo Perez in the sixth. It was Perez's 18th homer of the season and made it 3-2 at the time.
In the bottom of the seventh, Christian Vitters doubled to start the inning against starter Shaun Garceau who then retired the next two batters. Vitters stood on third when Garceau was relieved by Jose Jimenez who promptly allowed a single to Zac Mitchell, a double to Nic Liles, and a two-run single to Adam Klein to open up a 6-2 advantage.
Klein's single extended his on-base streak to 30 consecutive games.
The RailCats added four more in the eighth when Brian Kolb walked to start the inning and Ryan Babineau singled to the right side to move Kolb to third. Reliever Alex Thieroff threw a pick-off to first wide of the bag allowing one Kolb to score.
Cristian Guerrero followed with his third homer of the year, and first since June 7th, to make it 9-2. Later, Nic Liles added an RBI single to give the 'Cats the final margin.
Alain Quijano earned his league-leading tenth victory of the season with a seven inning effort. He allowed a pair of solo home runs, six total hits and three walks.
Tomorrow, the T-Bones and RailCats continue their three-game series. LHP James Adkins (1-2, 4.69 ERA) goes for the RailCats; Kansas City will start RHP Lucas Irvine (5-4, 3.01 ERA).
