Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Gary, Ind. - Thirty years ago, nightly promotions at baseball ballparks changed forever with one hot summer night on the south side of Chicago in July of 1979. An estimated 90,000 people arrived at Old Comiskey Park for a promotion known as "Disco Demolition Night" where fans brought in their disco LP records and other paraphernalia from the disco era to have blown up between games of a White Sox doubleheader. The spirit of the infamous promotion lives on to this day at ballparks around the country.
The Gary SouthShore RailCats will celebrate the 30th anniversary of that night with their own version of Disco Demolition Night at U. S. Steel Yard on July 30. Fans can get $2 off their ticket at the box office if they bring in old formats such as vinyl, CDs, VHS, Beta Max, cassettes, etc. to have blown up on the field after the game. Before the game, rock group One Way Up will perform live when gates open at 6 p.m.
More promotions will be in effect on July 30 as the RailCats will have $2 MGD and Miller Lite Drafts available to those 21 and older on Thirsty Thursday, presented by North Coast Distributing and X-Rock 103.9 FM. Not only can fans enjoy the beer specials, but every single person to come to the game gets one free hot dog, no questions asked. There's no catch, simply take the coupon - received at the gate - to any U. S. Steel Yard concession stand and walk away with a delicious Red Hot Chicago hot dog, totally free. And what would a night dedicated to 1979 be without making it 70's Night? The RailCats invite fans to dress up in their finest 1970's garb and enjoy the sweet sounds of 70's music all night at the ballpark.
The game is a stand alone home contest against the Joliet JackHammers and tickets are available by calling 219.882.2255, by visiting the U. S. Steel Yard box office, or by logging on to www.railcatsbaseball.com.
