Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL-Steve Haake hit a two-run home run and scored three times as the Gary RailCats took game one of a day-night doubleheader over the Flyers 5-2 in front of 7,045 fans on Camp Day at Alexian Field.

For the second game in a row, Gary took an early lead. Steve Haake hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first off Flyers' starter Tom Lyons. The RailCats extended that lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth. Haake just beat out a throw by Flyers' shortstop Travis Brown on a play at the plate after a groundball by Christian Guerrero. A double by Brett Wallace then plated Guerrero.

Schaumburg got on the board in their half of the fourth. Tony Mansolino got the Flyers' first hit of the game with a leadoff double to left. Jose Valdez followed with an RBI double to right and later scored on an RBI groundout by Craig Maddox, making the score 4-2 RailCats.

After three scoreless innings in a row, the RailCats added one in the top of the eighth as Haake scored on a sacrifice fly by Guerrero.

The rain came in the top of the ninth, just like last night, but not enough to delay the game. Andy Shipman came on in the bottom of the ninth for Gary and retired the Flyers in order to receive his ninth save of the season.

Lyons gave up four runs in six innings, striking out seven, and he dropped to 2-4. Derell McCall got his first victory in the Northern League, pitching five innings giving up two runs and striking out six. The Flyers drop to 27-31 while Gary improves to 35-25.

These two conclude their series tonight as game two is at 6:45 tonight. The Flyers still have not announced a starter while the RailCats send Tony Cogan (5-5, 3.83) to the hill.
