July 29, 2005 - Northern League (NL)
Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

St. Paul, Minn.-Josh Renick's two-run, tie-breaking single in the eighth inning gave the St. Paul Saints their first lead of the night and lifted them to a 9-6 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats and a split of the four game series. The loss dropped the RailCats to 7-6 in the second half and 34-27 on the season.

The RailCats scored four runs on five hits in the fourth inning and led 4-1. Ben Risinger doubled to start the inning and went to third on Jose Yepez's single to left. Tanner Townsend's infield hit scored Risinger, and Yepez scored on an error to make it 2-1. Jay Pecci followed with a double to drive in Townsend, and Curt Lee singled to bring in Pecci.

St. Paul answered with a two-run home run by Jeremy Frost in the bottom of the inning before the RailCats scored on Yepez's run-scoring single in the fifth.

St. Paul came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.

David Weiner connected on his first professional home run in the sixth to give the RailCats a 6-5 lead, but St. Paul scored a single run in the seventh on a two-out single by Tee Brown to tie the game at 6-6.

The Saints scored three runs against reliever Travis Kerber in the eighth, handing Kerber (4-1) his first loss of the season, in a wild inning as they loaded the bases with no outs without a ball passing the pitcher's mound on a bunt single, a Kerber error, and a hit batsman. Renick's two-run single broke the tie.

The RailCats return home to play six games in seven days at U. S. Steel Yard beginning Friday at 7:00 PM against Schaumburg. Greg Bruso (2-5, 5.03) will start for the RailCats against Matt Bailie (7-0, 1.90), the Northern League's earned run average leader and starting pitcher for the Southern Division in the All-Star Game.
