
RailCats Lose to Schaumburg 7-2

Gary, Ind. - Chris Weekly had three hits including a two-run home run and Matt Bailie tossed seven strong innings to earn his eighth straight victory as the Schaumburg Flyers defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-2 on Friday night at U. S. Steel Yard. The RailCats dropped to 7-7 in the second half and 34-28 on the season. They are one game out of first place.
Schaumburg scored four runs in the second inning against Gary starting pitcher Greg Bruso (2-6). Weekly hit a two-run home run to right, his 10th of the year, to start the scoring. Geoff McCallum added a two-run single later in the inning to make it 4-0.
The Flyers chased Bruso to the showers in the third with another run as Josue Lopez singled in Justin Hendrickson from second with one out to make it 5-0. Schaumburg added another run in the fourth on Weekly's run-scoring single, and tacked on an unearned run in the sixth.
The RailCats had just two hits over the first six innings against Bailie before scoring two runs in the seventh. Jose Yepez walked with two outs and scored on Tanner Townsend's double to right. Alex Taylor followed with a bloop single to center to drive in Townsend to make it 7-2.
Bailie (8-0) allowed four hits and two runs while walking three and striking out six. Geoff McCallum had two hits for Schaumburg and extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games.
Bruso allowed seven hits and five runs in two and one-third innings to suffer the loss. The RailCats collected just four hits.
The RailCats host the Flyers on Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Jamie Bennett (6-2, 4.17) will start for Gary against Schaumburg's Anthony Boughner (4-7, 3.67).
