Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats have announced the following roster changes:
Pitcher Jeff Mault has been traded to Windy City of the Frontier League in exchange for future considerations.
Pitcher Ryan Burnau has been released.
Pitcher Andy Carter has been signed as a free agent.
Mault was 0-2 with a 4.91 earned run average in eight games (two starts) with the RailCats. Burnau was 0-1, 15.32 in 10 relief appearances.
Carter played for the New York Yankees' Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2005, going 2-1, 3.92 in 11 games (one start). He pitched briefly earlier this season with Washington (Frontier League) posting no record while allowing three runs in eight innings of work. Carter is a product of Davidson College and was a 35th round draft pick of the Yankees in 2005.
The RailCats signed pitcher Matt Petty on Sunday, but he has not yet seen game action. Petty played this spring at Emporia State University in Kansas, going 3-0 with nine saves and a 3.45 ERA in 27 games. He has not pitched professionally.
The RailCats roster is currently at 21 players, one below the Northern League limit. The RailCats expect to sign pitcher Sazi Guthrie after he passes a physical. Guthrie, who pitched for the RailCats in 2003 before his contract was sold to the San Diego Padres organization, would be placed in the starting rotation if he is signed.
The RailCats, who have won seven of their last 10 games, play at Joliet Wednesday and Thursday before starting a six game homestand Friday night against the Kansas City T-Bones at U. S. Steel Yard. For tickets, call (219) 882-2255.
