Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs News Release
LAST TIME OUT: The Rail Yard Dawgs erased a 2-0 first period deficit to tie the game at two after two periods but the Knoxville Ice Bears regained control in the third and beat the Rail Yard Dawgs, 6-3, Saturday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.
HOME SWEET HOME: Thursday's game is the first at home for the Rail Yard Dawgs since February 17, a 2-1 shootout win over Huntsville. Overall the Dawgs are 11-11-1 at home and 10-10-3 on the road. Roanoke has won each of its last four games at home.
SINCE WE'VE BEEN GONE: Roanoke has played each of its last seven games on the road and went 4-2-1 during that stretch. The Dawgs out-scored their opponents, 28-22, during the road swing.
STANDINGS WATCH: Roanoke enters the weekend in the eighth and final playoff spot in the SPHL with 46 standings points. The Rail Yard Dawgs are two points behind the seventh-place Mississippi RiverKings, five behind the sixth-place Evansville Thunderbolts and one point clear of the ninth-place Birmingham Bulls. Roanoke has a game in hand on all three of said teams. The Dawgs have no games remaining against Mississippi and Evansville and will play their final game against Birmingham on Saturday.
FAMILIAR FOE: The Rail Yard Dawgs and the Mayhem are playing for the sixth time this season and the second time in the past week. The Dawgs are 3-2-0 against the Mayhem this season including a 1-1-0 mark at home. After Thursday and Friday's games, Roanoke and Macon will have faced one another three out of a stretch of four games.
HOT TO THE MAX(ime): Maxime Guyon continued his torrid pace with four points (one goal, three assists) in two games last weekend. Guyon now has five goals and four assists over six games since joining the Rail Yard Dawgs. He has skated to a +7 plus/minus rating and is scoring on 25% of his shots on goal. Prior to signing with Roanoke, Guyon had recorded 32 goals and 31 assists in 30 games with the FHL's Cornwall Nationals.
BARONE BACK: Brad Barone was returned from a stint with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Monday. The goaltender played in three games for Greenville and went 0-1-2 while making a combined 100 saves. Barone is the reigning SPHL player of the month, sits third in the league with a 2.94 GAA and leads the league with a .920 save percentage.
HOME-COOKED MEAL...E: Steve Mele has been great at home this season, scoring nine goals with 23 assists in 23 games. In 23 road games he has 11 goals and eight assists.
UP NEXT: Roanoke and Macon will finish their season series on Friday night. Puck drop at Berglund Center is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
