Macon Mayhem News Release
ROANOKE, VA- The Macon Mayhem failed to get started offensively on Thursday against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, as they fell 2-1 on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
There was just one goal between the two squads in a quick first two periods. After no scoring and just eight shots combined in the first period, the Rail Yard Dawgs hopped on the board first. Leading scorer Steve Mele fired a one-timer past Mayhem goaltender Charlie Finn to give Roanoke the initial lead of the game.
The Mayhem notched up the game early in the third period with a power play goal. Daniel Gentzler jammed home the chance on the backdoor, assisted by Jake Trask and Dylan Vander Esch. Less than two minutes later, former Mayhem John Gustafsson gave the Rail Yard Dawgs the lead once again on the power play. Neither team would get on the boar again, as Roanoke skated away with a 2-1 victory.
NOTABLE STATS
The Mayhem outshot the Rail Yard Dawgs by a wide margin, outshooting them 30-16 in the game. They outshot them 6-2 in the first period, and the two shots they allowed in the first period are tied for the fewest they have allowed in a period this season. Charlie Finn stopped 14 of the 16 shots he faced.
Daniel Gentzler's goal was his sixth of the season, and he scored for the second straight game after not having scored since November 11th against Birmingham. Jake Trask tallied his league-leading 57th point of the season and Dylan Vander Esch collected his fourth point in his third Mayhem game.
