Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs Right Wing Maxime Guyon controls the puck vs. the Macon Mayhem

ROANOKE, VA - Brad Barone made 29 saves, John Gustafsson netted the game-winning goal in the third period and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs bested the Macon Mayhem, 2-1, Thursday night at Berglund Center.
With the game tied at one early in the third, the Dawgs drew a penalty and headed to the power play. Steve Mele possessed the puck along the left wing and carried it below the net. He put a pass on Gustafsson's tape who fired a snapper over the shoulder of Charlie Finn to give the Rail Yard Dawgs a 2-1 lead.
Roanoke would hold that lead throughout the period thanks in large part to the play of Barone. He made several acrobatic saves to help keep the Dawgs on top. Roanoke found itself shorthanded in the final minutes of the third and Macon opted to pull Finn for the extra attacker. They fired several shots on net put couldn't crack Barone and the Dawgs held on for the 2-1 victory.
Barone stopped 29 of 30 shots faced and made 13 saves in the third to backstop the Dawgs to the win.
The Rail Yard Dawgs started the scoring in the second period. Maxime Guyon controlled the puck behind the net and fired it to Mele wide open in the slot. He sent a one-timer past Finn to put the Dawgs on top, 1-0.
Macon got its lone goal early in the third period while working on a power play. A bouncing puck found its way to Daniel Gentzler who was able to sneak it past Barone and tie the game at one.
Mele had a goal and an assist and Guyon totaled two assists to pace the Roanoke offense.
The Rail Yard Dawgs improved to 22-21-4 with the win while Macon fell to 26-16-5. The win also vaulted the Dawgs back into a tie for seventh place with the Mississippi RiverKings. Roanoke will return to action on Friday night for its second game in as many nights against the Mayhem. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Berglund Center.
