Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - The Prince Albert Raiders have acquired 19 year-old defenceman Patrick Kozyra from the Medicine Hat Tigers in a trade that also involves some Western Hockey League draft picks. The Tigers get the Raiders' 5th round selection in the 2009 draft and their 6th round pick in 2010, while the Raiders acquire the Tigers 6th round pick in the 2009 draft.
Kozyra, a 4th round selection (76th overall) in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft of the Red Deer Rebels, is in his fourth season in the WHL. He has played 142 games in his career with the Rebels, Spokane and Medicine Hat. This season Kozyra has appeared in all 26 games with the Tigers with 6 assists, 10 minutes in penalties and is a +6 ranking in plus/minus.
"We are very excited to acquire a veteran defenceman like Patrick," says Raiders Head Coach and General Manager Bruno Campese. "He will add some experience and stability to our young defence."
Kozyra, who will wear #21, is expected to make his debut tomorrow night when the Raiders take on the Hitmen in Calgary, continuing their 6 game road trip.
