Raider, Prince Albert Connection on U of S Huskies that will tangle with Islander Rookies

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - When the New York Islanders NHL Rookies skate against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 PM at the Art Hauser Centre, they will be facing a team with many ties to the Prince Albert Raiders and the city of Prince Albert.

The Islanders have yet to confirm their lineup for September 15, but it could include up to two first round draft picks: centre John Taveres (1st overall) and defenceman Calvin De Haan (12th overall) from the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Also eligible to suit up for the Isles rookies would be defenceman Jyri Niemi of the Saskatoon Blades, whom the Islanders selected in the 3rd round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Their opposition could include up to four former Raiders and two graduates of the Prince Albert Minor Hockey Association. Evan Schafer (2002-05), Brad Erickson (2003-05), Zach Sim (2007-08) and Prince Albert product Jarrid Dowhay (2005-07) are former Raiders on coach Dave Adolph's U of S roster. Recent Western Hockey League graduates Matt Swaby (Tri Cities, Edmonton 2004-08) and Cody Hobbs (Chilliwack, Prince George 2006-09) are from Prince Albert.

There still are tickets left for the exhibition game, which is part of the Islanders NHL Training Camp being hosted in Saskatoon. Tickets are only $25 each and available on line at www.raiderhockey.com and by calling 764-GAME.
