Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Rocky Mountain Rage broke open a close game with four third period goals and defeated the Memphis RiverKings 6-1 before 4,391 fans Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The loss ended the RiverKings' 16 game home unbeaten streak and, coupled with Bossier-Shreveport's shootout loss to Youngstown, puts them in a first place tie in the Northeast Division with 72 points. The RiverKings head back on the road for three games in three nights in Youngstown beginning Thursday night at 6:05.

The RiverKings started well as Derek Landmesser converted on the power play with a wrist shot from the point for his 11th goal of the season at 10:01 of the first period. The Rage tied the contest at 14:51 when Trevor Weisgerber backhanded the puck past RiverKings netminder Kevin Schieve.

The lone goal of the second period came in the final seconds of the second period. Matic Kralj (Mah teese Krawl) scored from the slot with just six seconds remaining to give the Rage the lead and the momentum going into the locker room. Prior to Kralj's goal, the RiverKings had several quality chances to be the team to jump ahead, but they could not get it past Rage goalie Trevor Cunning.

The third period goals for Rocky Mountain consisted of two from John DiPace, and one each from Chip Dunleavy (empty net) and Mark Wires. An altercation following Dunleavy's empty netter resulted in two major penalties called on the RiverKings that in turn led to a Rage five on three advantage for the remaining 3:13 of the game. Wires' goal came on the five on three.

Cunning picked up the win with 33 saves while Schieve took the loss for the RiverKings.
