Sundogs Complete 6-0 Home Stand with 4-3 Win

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs faced off against the Colorado Eagles for the second time in as many nights and completed a 6-0 home stand in front 4,617 fans at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley Saturday night. Netminder Kris Mayotte would gain his fifth straight win stopping 32 of 35 shots. Chris Bartolone, Brent Kelly and Cory Stillman would all notch multiple points in the 4-3 win.

The Sundogs would strike first for the second straight night against the Colorado Eagles as Chris Bartolone would find the back of the net at the 8:17 mark of the first period on passes from Cory Stillman and Brent Kelly. The goal would come on an Arizona 4-on-3 power play for a 1-0 lead. With 3:09 to play in the first Colorado would even the score on a power play chance of their own. Sundogs netminder would be screened on a Riley Nelson shot from the point as it would sneak past him. Ryan Tobler would be credited with the assist on the play.

At 4:06 of the second period Arizona would regain a one-goal lead as Kelly would take a cross ice pass from Karl Sellan deflecting it past Eagles' netminder Paulo Colaiacovo for a 2-1 lead. Stillman would also tally a helper on the go-ahead goal. The Sundogs would push the score to 3-1 as Colaiacovo would be caught out of position behind the Colorado net. Stillman and Ladislav Kouba would wrestle the puck free and feed Bartolone at the top of the circles for his second goal of the night at the 16:04 mark.

Arizona's Jonathan Landry would tally his fifth goal of the season and first since making the move from forward to defense. The unassisted goal would come just 15 seconds into the third period and give the Sundogs a 4-1 lead. With 4:20 remaining in regulation Colorado would score its second power play goal of the night while on a 5-on-3 man advantage. Seth Leonard would push the puck past a sprawling Kris Mayotte. Colorado would score again but with only 7 seconds left in the game to make the final score 4-3. Scott Polaski would take the puck from Ed McGrane and Tobler and find the back of the net.

Sundogs netminder Kris Mayotte grabbed his fifth straight win stopping 32 of 35 shots while Paulo Colaiacovo suffered his second straight loss stopping 34 of 38 shots. Arizona struggled on the power play converting just one on 12 chances while Colorado did much the same going just 2-for-9 with the man advantage. Arizona outshot Colorado 38-35 in the 4-3 victory. With the win the Sundogs maintain a three-point advantage over Rio Grande Valley and a four-point cushion over Austin for the Southern Conference's fifth playoff spot. Both New Mexico and Amarillo lost tonight leaving Arizona just two points back of second place Amarillo and four points back of New Mexico for the division lead.
