February 24, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
For the fourth straight time the Youngstown SteelHounds needed to go to either overtime or a shootout to decide a game, well on Saturday night they were able to finish their three game road trip a perfect 3-0-0 as they defeated their division rival, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2.
Chris Richards struck first for Youngstown as he scored a power play goal with five minutes remaining in the first period to give the Hounds a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. For Richards it was his third straight power play goal and his 20th power play goal of the year.
In the second period Jeremy Downs scored his first of two power play goals on the night to tie the game at one after 40 minutes of play.
Youngstown quickly took back the lead as at the four minute mark Brad Patterson recorded his 13th of the season to give the Hounds a 2-1 lead. The lead did not last long as Jeremy Downs scored his second power play goal of the game to tie it at two and force overtime and eventually the shootout.
In the shootout Chris Richards scored the second goal for the Hounds and that ended up being the game winner as Brad Roberts stopped four of five Mudbug shooters en route to making 25 saves on 27 shots to help the Hounds get an impressive 3-2 victory over the Bugs on Saturday night.
The Hounds finish the three game road trip a perfect 3-0-0 with all three games at least going to overtime and Chris Richards recording the game winner in all three games. Goaltender Brad Roberts improves his record to an impressive 17-9-4 as he got the win in all three games for the Hounds. Youngstown improves on the road to 14-9-4 and are now 26-16-9 (61pts) and comfortably hold the fifth playoff position in the Northern Conference.
The Hounds return home for a five game home stand starting on Thursday night when they begin a three game series with fellow division rival, Memphis at 7:05pm.
