Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Youngstown, Ohio - The Rocky Mountain Rage were defeated by the Youngstown SteelHounds at the Chevrolet Centre, 4-2. Mark Wires and Dorian Anneck both scored for the Rage as the club dropped to 1-1-1 with three points on the young season.
For the second consecutive game, the Rage opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead. Working on their first power play, Anders Strome broke through the right circle and fed Wires in front, who re-directed his first goal of the season past Youngstown goaltender Brad Roberts at 9:16. The Hounds tied the game at 17:36 of the opening frame when Paul Esdale cut toward Rocky Mountain netminder David Guererra and at the last moment dished to Brad Patterson for an easy finish.
Youngstown took control of the game in the second period, out-shooting the Rage 16-9 and taking a 3-1 lead to the third. John Neal scored at 4:06 before Jeff Christian added a four-on-three power play goal at 7:39 to give the SteelHounds their second two-goal lead heading to the third in as many nights. Last night, Rocky Mountain was able to force overtime despite a 4-2 deficit through 40 minutes before eventually falling, 5-4, in the extra session.
Tonight, though, Youngstown added to its lead early in the third before the Rage had a chance to mount another comeback. Chris Shaffer scored from the base of the left circle at 1:07 to extend the Hounds' advantage to 4-1. Rocky Mountain responded quickly with Anneck cashing in his second goal of the year at 2:40 on the power play, but it was not enough this evening as the Rage suffered their first regulation loss by the final of 4-2.
The Rage complete a stretch of six straight road games to begin their inaugural season next weekend when they travel to face the Wichita Thunder, Oklahoma City Blazers, and Memphis RiverKings on Nov. 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Rocky Mountain then returns home for its first-ever game at the brand new, state-of-the-art Broomfield Event Center on Friday, Nov. 10, against the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05 p.m.
