Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Playing their last game before Halloween, the Youngstown SteelHounds played a little trick-or-treat with the Rocky Mountain Rage as they scored four straight goals en route to a 4-2 victory at the Chevrolet Centre. Rookie goaltender Brad Roberts won his second straight start turning away 23 shots and Chris Shaffer and Brad Patterson each scored a goal and had an assist. The win keeps the Hounds undefeated at 4-0 and extends their winning streak to seven straight games dating back to last season.

The Rage took the lead first the second straight night in the opening frame of the game, only this time it was at the 9:16 mark of the first period. Anders Strome found forward Mark Wires in front of Hounds Roberts giving the Rage a 1-0 lead. The SteelHounds would tie the score at one at 17:36 of the frame, as defensemen Paul Esdale put a backhand shot on the net that deflected off the right pad of Rage goalie David Guerrera, where Hounds center Brad Patterson streaked in for the rebound and shot the puck into the net to tie the score at one going into the first intermission.

The Hounds repeated their second period performance from last night scoring two goals in the frame to take a 3-1 lead. John Neal notched his first professional goal as he floated the puck through the five hole of Guerrera to give the Hounds a 2-1 advantage at the 4:06 mark of the second period. Just over three and a half minutes later, Jeff Christian scored his fourth goal of the season shooting a loose puck into the side of the net that gave the Hounds a 4-2 lead after the second frame.

Dorian Anneck notched the lone goal in the third period for the Rage cutting the SteelHounds lead to 4-2. Rocky Mountain had several chances in the period, but a strong effort by the Hounds defense and goaltender Brad Roberts kept the Rage from getting back into the game.

The SteelHounds outshot the Rage again, this time by a count of 36-25. Rookie goalie Brad Roberts, put forth another solid effort in just his third game as a pro, stopping 23 of 25 shots to earn his second victory of the season. David Guerrera, who was bombarded with shots for the third straight night, stopped 32 of 36 and was saddled with his 1 regulation loss of the year.

The Hounds will begin a five-road trip beginning in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, as the SteelHounds will face the Scorpions for a two game set beginning on Wednesday, November 1st.
