Bucks Fall 4-2 To Killer Bees, Laredo Raises President's Cup

LAREDO, Texas- The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 4-2 to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in front of 6,879 fans in their 2006-07 home opener. The pre-game featured the raising of the 2005-06 President's Cup Championship banner and the presentation of the 2005-06 championship rings to the players, but the Bucks were unable to capitalize on the emotion of the evening. It was the first ever home opening loss for Laredo who is now 1-2-0. The Bucks are on the road in Austin on Sunday. Laredo returns home on Tuesday to celebrate Halloween against the Corpus Christi Rayz. Face off set for 7 p.m. The first 2,500 fans get a Bucks Halloween Flashing Lapel Pin courtesy of AT&T. Just 23 seconds into the first period the Bucks lit the lamp. Forward Igor Agarunov found forward Serge Dube streaking down the left wing. Dube skated in and lifted a backhander into the top corner of the net for his third goal in three games and a 1-0 Bucks lead. The Killer Bees tied it on a two-man advantage. Forward Matt Reynolds got loose on a two-one-one down low and snapped home a wrist shot at 2:17 for his third of the season.

In the second period the Killer Bees took the lead. Defenseman Kurtis Dulle made a nice step around move and ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle into the cage at 11:27 for a 2-1 Rio Grande Valley lead.

Early in the third the Bucks had a 1:50 two man advantage, but were unable to capitalize. Rio Grande Valley extended their lead on a power play chance. Dulle fired a wrist shot from the right point that was tipped in by Reynolds for his second of the game at 13:10 to make it 3-1 Killer Bees. Late in the third forward / defenseman Steve Weidlich grabbed a loose puck at the side of the net and scored his first of the year at 19:27 to bring the Bucks within a goal. The Killer Bees sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:54 by forward Mark O' Leary. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 4, Laredo 2.

Nathan Marsters allowed three goals on 33 shots and took the loss to fall to 1-2-0. Jeff Van Nynatten stopped 24 of 26 shots and got his first pro win to improve to 1-1-0. Laredo was 0-7 on the power play while the Bucks were 2-9. Rio Grande Valley out shot the Bucks 34-26.
