Rafters Host Fond Du Lac in a Wednesday Tilt

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. -With a chance to begin the season 8-1, Wisconsin Rapids hosts Fond du Lac (3-5) Wednesday evening from Witter Field.

In a 6-1 win Tuesday night over the Wisconsin Woodchucks to give the Rafters a 7-1 record, the offense was sparked in the early innings. Josh Rehwaldt brought in two runs with a double in the first and continued to hit with an RBI single in the third. Bryson Stott and Dustin Woodcock both drove in a run in the third as well. To top off the scoring, Matt Schmidt lined a base hit to score a run in the top of the ninth to give the Rafters a 6-1 win against the Woodchucks.

Quinn DiPasquale (1-0) tossed the longest outing by a Rafters starter this year, going seven and two thirds with one earned run. The righty struck out five and did not issue a walk. A total of six runners reached base against DiPasquale.

The last time the Rafters and Dock Spiders met was on June 2nd in a game controlled by the offenses. Fond du Lac jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, but the Rafters offense then took over to score 13 unanswered runs on 17 hits to win 13-5.

On the hill against the Dock Spiders tonight for the Rafters is Cal Giese (0-1). Giese started on the road against Fond du Lac in the third game of the season. The lefty allowed three runs in five innings during a 4-1 loss. The Dock Spiders send Gunnar Kay out against the Rafters offense. Kay has appeared in two games out of the bullpen with his last game on June 3rd against the Woodchucks. The righty owns an ERA of 6.75 in five and a third innings.

Today at Witter Field is Assumption Catholic Schools night with the gates opening at 6:05 pm. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm with coverage of the game on WFHR 1320 AM starting at 6:50 pm.
