
Late-Inning Rally Gives Mankato Win over Stingers

WILLMAR, Minn. - The Stingers dropped game two of the home-and-home series against Mankato at Bill Taunton Stadium Tuesday evening.
Mankato started by scoring two runs in the first inning. Moments later, the Stingers countered by scoring three in the bottom half, capped by Nolan Bumstead's (CS-Northridge) first home run of the season.
His home run drove in the second and third runs of the day for Willmar. It was the third Stingers' home run of the season, all of which have been hit at home.

It is the second straight night that Bumstead was named the CDI Player of the Night. After his home run, he leads the team with 8 RBI on the season.
Brady Shockey (USC) extended his hit streak to seven games with singles in the first and seventh innings. He did not play Opening Night, but has recorded a hit in every game since. He leads the team with a .400 average.
Mankato scored two runs in the eighth inning to take the 5-4 lead over Willmar. Later, in the ninth inning, they scored five runs to put the game out of reach for the Stingers, eventually winning the game with a 10-4 final score.
Marcus McCorkle (Georgia Gwinnett) stole three bases for the Stingers, bringing his total to eight on the year. As of Tuesday evening, that is second-most in the Northwoods League, only behind his teammate, Marcus Still (New Mexico State).
Corey Binger (UN-Omaha) started on the mound for the Stingers. He pitched five innings and gave up three runs in his no decision.
The Stingers, now 5-3, embark on a five-game road trip beginning in Bismarck. They play two against the Larks in their first-ever series against the newest team in the North Division.
