Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - Wisconsin Rapids takes its 10-game win streak to Green Bay on Tuesday to take on the Bullfrogs (6-7) for the first time this summer.
With a win in their last game played on Sunday night, the Rafters (12-1) entrenched their names into the record books, this time staking the longest win streak in team history. For just the 16th time in Northwoods League history, the Rafters have a double-digit win streak. It was a shutout performance by the Wisconsin Rapids bullpen on Sunday that helped seal the deal.
The games scoring got underway early for Wisconsin Rapids. Dustin Woodcock drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first. The Madison Mallards quickly took a 2-1 lead after the top of the fourth. The lead did not last long for the Mallards due to a Woodcock solo home-run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. Bryson Stott drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the fifth to make it 3-2.
The Rafters offense broke out for four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a Nic Motley two-RBI double. Woodcock walked with the bases loaded to add another run, while Ryan Stekl bounced into a fielder's choice to give the Rafters a comfortable 7-2 advantage. Cameron Busby entered in relief for the fifth time this season (most on the Rafters team) and tossed three innings of scoreless relief. Jack Eagan (3-0) earned the win.
With a chance to win its sixth series in 2017, the Rafters send out right-hander Quinn DiPasquale (1-0) to start against the Bullfrogs. DiPasquale owns a 1.54 ERA this year, starting in two games. In his most recent start against the Wisconsin Woodchucks, the righty dealt seven and two-thirds of one run baseball.
