Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Phillies have finalized details on several family oriented promotions. In addition to a strong promotional lineup of giveaways, fireworks and all-you-can-eat tickets, these promotions will be recurring themes throughout the 2009 season. The team has tagged the season with the slogan "Bring the Fam". The R-Phils have been widely recognized as an outlet for affordable family entertainment for over 20 years.
Minor League Baseball recently published a study from its St. Petersburg, FL headquarters that the average cost for a family of four to attend a game is $54.50. The study surveyed teams that charge admission from Rookie Leagues to Triple-A in the United States and Canada. The dollar figure is the average cost of two adult tickets, two child tickets, two beers, two sodas, four hot dogs, a program and parking. Comparable packages at a Double-A R-Phils game range from $43.00-$64.00, depending on seat location, and average $55.75.
"Affordable family entertainment is what we've always done," said R-Phils General Manager Scott Hunsicker. "For my 18 seasons here that's what we've marketed. While, maybe, some other types of businesses are having to readjust the way they're marketing to people in the current economic climate we haven't had to do that. We've always been doing these things."
The Redner's Warehouse Markets R-Phils Kids Club is all new starting this season. Club membership is free and kids/parents can register or get detailed information at readingphillieskids.com. Club highlights include: a membership card; a free ticket to five special games that include exclusive events such as a player autograph session; for each home game a different member will win four box seats via the Club's weekly email newsletter; members should check in at any game they attend as one will be upgraded to box seats; members can play most Phunland games free for 30 minutes during all Happy Hours; only members can get free player autographs and balloon art during family nights.
Pepsi 4 for $48 Family Packages are available at every Friday game in addition to all Monday and Wednesday night games starting the second week of June. A $59 value, the package includes four yellow box seats, four hot dogs and four sodas. All fans are invited to play catch on the field during the pre-game and the first 100 kids get a free soft toss baseball. Families are also able to take a photo at a special station set up in the outfield. Kids Club members (see above paragraph) can also get free player autographs and balloon art by clowns in the right field food court.
The R-Phils also have $15 tickets remaining for three Family Days at the Reading Eagle Pool Pavilion. Typical Pool Pavilion prices for those days of the week range from $22-$26. A $15 Family Day ticket includes: access to the pool, a visit from an R-Phils player, a 2 ½ hour all-you-can-eat buffet with hamburgers, hot dogs, mac and cheese, potato salad, chips, pretzels, cookies, iced tea, lemonade and Pepsi products.
The R-Phils, renowned for great ballpark concessions at great prices, are also introducing a new Crazy Hot Dog Vendor Kids Meal. The $6 meal will be available at the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor Stand in the right field food court and includes: a hot dog, apple slices, Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers, a juice box and a hat like the Crazy Hot Dog Vendor wears - all in a convenient and kid friendly box.
FirstEnergy Stadium, the 59-year old home of the R-Phils, has also undergone a historic renovation that is certainly family friendly. For the first time in the ballpark's existence, the men's room in the main concourse includes a boy's urinal that's easy for the little sluggers to reach.
Opening Day is April 9 vs. the Harrisburg Senators at 7:05 PM. The Capital BlueCross Exhibition Game vs. the Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs on April 7 at 6:35 PM. Tickets and promotional information can be found at r-phils.com.
