Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Binghamton, NY - Yard Goats right-hander Andrew Quezada fired a season-high six scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 1.64, but the Binghamton Rumble Ponies rallied for seven runs in the seventh inning and defeated Hartford 7-2 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. The Yard Goats only run scored when Kyle Datres walked with the bases loaded in the seventh. Quezada allowed just four singles, walked one and struck out four, while getting help from three double plays and a pickoff. Yanquiel Fernandez and Sterlin Thompson each had a pair of hits for the Yard Goats, who were knocked to second place, one half game behind Portland.
Yard Goats starter Andrew Quezada and Binghamton starter Cam Foster were in control of the game and each worked six scoreless innings. Hartford's best opportunity to score was in the sixth inning as Ronaiker Palma had a leadoff single but was stranded at third base. Sterlin Thompson had a one out double in the second inning.
Hartford scored the first run of the game in the seventh inning against the Rumble Ponies bullpen. Yanquiel Fernandez led off the frame with a single and Sterlin Thompson and Bladimir Restituyo each walked to load the bases. Reliever Daniel Juarez then walked Kyle Datres with the bases loaded and Fernandez scored to make it 1-0.
The Rumble Ponies rallied for seven runs in the seventh inning. After reliever Jake Sommers retired the first batter on a grounder, Alex Ramirez singled and Kevin Parada walked. JT Schwart's tied the game with an RBI single and Mateo Gil's fielder's choice grounder gave the Ponies a 2-1 lead. The Mets affiliate added five more runs and an error and two-run double by Rowdy Jordan to beat the Yard Goats for the second straight game.
