Quebec Rallies to Break No-No And Take Lead for Good in 4-1 Win

July 3, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Ryan Bicondoa kept the Quebec Capitales hitless through four innings, but three straight hits opened a two-run fifth for Quebec as they defeated the Tornadoes 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Bicondoa got his first loss of the season (0-1) in a 6.1-innings effort, striking out six and allowing eight baserunners (one walk, six hits and two hit batters) plus two earned runs. Thanks to a Quebec rally in the seventh with two Tornadoes errors (one by Abraham Nunez, the other by Nick Salotti), Bicondoa gave up another two (unearned) runs.

Sean Gregory retired all five Capitales batters he faced, but Sebastien Boucher, the first batter, hit a sacrifice fly to end the game's scoring.

Worcester scored its only run in the top of the third, when Alex Nunez plated Anthony Sosnoskie with a double. Sosnoskie led the inning off with one of his two singles in the game, then advanced to second on Ryan Crespi's bunt single. The Tornadoes left the bases loaded in the frame and stranded eight runners on the basepaths over the course of the game.

Dan Sausville picked up the victory for Quebec, going seven strong innings. Sausville struck out three, walked one, and allowed seven hits plus one run (earned). Jeff Duda gave up one hit in a scoreless eighth and T.J. Stanton did the same in the ninth, picking up his sixth save (walking one and striking out one).

Game three of the series is Monday night at 7:05. After the game, the Tornadoes will head home for an off-day, then travel to the brand New Provident Bank Park for a four-game set with the Rockland Boulders starting Wednesday.
