Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (June 17, 2009) - The Brockton Rox lost for the sixth time in seven games on Wednesday night despite taking a 3-1 lead in to the ninth inning over the Quebec Capitales. Quebec rallied against Rox closer RHP Jerry Dunn for two runs in the ninth to tie the game, and scored an unearned run against LHP Fraser Robinson in the tenth for a 4-3 victory over the Rox.

Brockton led for almost the entire game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning and holding the advantage until Quebec tied the game with two outs in the top of the ninth. Capitales' SS Douglas Toro drove in the tying run with a triple in the bottom of the ninth inning. Dunn stranded the go-ahead run at third base giving the Rox an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.

3B Rich Michalek walked to lead off the inning, and moved up to second base on a single by LF Ervin Alcantara. When Alcantara was retired on a fielder's choice at second base, Michalek advanced to third base. Quebec third baseman Patrick Deschenes dove to pull in a ground ball off the bat of SS Dominic Ramos, and threw out Michalek at home for the second out, and the Capitales' closer RHP Jason Schutt induced an inning-ending popout to 1B Keith Brachold to end the inning.

With two outs in the tenth inning, Quebec C Patrick D'Aoust scored from second base after an error to give the Capitales the lead 4-3. Schutt recorded his first win of the year, facing four batters in the tenth inning.

A tremendous started by Rox LHP Craig Anderson was overshadowed by the late-inning dramatics. Anderson scattered six hits over six innings and surrendered just one run, but did not figure in the final decision.

The Rox and Capitales wrap up the three-game set on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium with a 7:05 PM start. RHP Wayne Lundgren (1-2, 4.21 ERA) will face Capitales' RHP Michel Simard (2-1, 1.61 ERA).
