Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - The American Defenders of New Hampshire took advantage of five Sussex Skyhawk errors to cruise to an 11-7 win on Wednesday night before a sellout crowd at Skylands Park.
Boomer Berry was 4-for-5 and Angel Molina drove in four runs to spearhead the offensive attack for New Hampshire. Luis Ramos (2-0) picked up the win after throwing 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Sussex starter Mike Schellinger (1-2), who only gave up one hit through the first five innings, was tagged with the loss.
Trailing 5-3 in the top of the seventh, New Hampshire plated four runs to make it a 7-5 game. Berry drove in two with a double and Molina drove in two more with a single to highlight the inning. New Hampshire added four more runs in the top of the ninth to cushion its lead.
The Skyhawks took a commanding 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third when catcher Ray Serrano drilled a two-run double to the wall in left. Sussex added another run in the fifth when Josh Urick drove home Jorge Moreno to make it 5-0.
The Skyhawks return to action on Thursday against the American Defenders in the final game of the three game series. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
