Quebec City, Quebec– The New Haven County Cutters were defeated 4-3 by the Quebec Les Capitales in eight innings on Thursday night in a rain shortened game that was called after a rain delay of over an hour.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, a Darren Ciraco single was followed by a Kevin Forbes double putting runners on second and third with one out. Catcher Adam Shorsher then launched a three run homer off Quebec starter Lance Franks giving the Cutters a 3-2 lead.

The game remained that way until the bottom of the seventh when with two men out and a Benoit Emond on first, Lefty reliever Greg McCarthy came on in place of A.J. Brack to face Capitales third basemen Shane Hopper. Hopper hit a two run home run off McCarthy giving the Capitales a 4-3 lead. For McCarthy (0-1) it was the first run he has allowed since joining New Haven.

Right-handed reliever Mike Hoyt pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to earn the win and even up his record at 2 and 2. Ben Grezlovski worked the top of the eight for Quebec to record his fifth save of the season.

Cutters starter Tony Harden tossed 5 and 1/3 innings allowing nine hits and two runs and received a no decision. Leftfielder Kevin Forbes went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and right fielder Darren Ciraco had two outfield assists in the game.
