
LaSalle Pitches Pio's Past Spirit

Elmira, NY- Julio LaSalle took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Pioneers put up four runs, including three in the sixth inning to pick up a 4-2 win over the North Shore Spirit on Thursday night.
In the first inning the Pioneers went up 1-0 on an RBI double from Rick Elder to score Dennis Abreu. In the sixth Elmira would add three unearned runs as both Elder, who walked and Yuji Nerei scored on an error by Leftfielder Justin Hastings to put Elmira up three. Steve Checksfield, who singled earlier in the inning would then score on a balk by pitcher Ben Knapp making it 4-0 Elmira. The Spirit would get one run back in the seventh inning on an RBI groundout by Yuri Sanchez. In the eighth North Shore would cut the Elmira lead to two on an error by Shortstop Digz Edwards. In the ninth the Spirit threatened with two down and runners on the corner but Robbie Morrison got Vic Davilla to fly out to Jeremy Dodson in the center to end the game.
LaSalle picked up his second win of the season, pitching seven sparkling innings of one run baseball. LaSalle struck out two batters and allowed just one hit in his best outing of the season. Reliever Robbie Morrison recorded the final six outs of the night to pick up the save.
