Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks are proud to announce that outfielder Jake Whitesides has been sold to the Chicago White Sox organization today. Whitesides is coming off a performance in the Central League/Northeast League All-Star Game that saw him bat 2-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run.
Whitesides, a former 5th round pick of the Houston Astros, was hitting .307 with six home runs, thirty RBI, and fifteen stolen bases. The Columbia, MO native was among top ten in hitting in the league, second in stolen bases, fourth in hits (58), second in doubles (15), second in triples (4), and tied for third in extra base hits with teammate Derry Hammond (25).
Last season, Whitesides hit .298 with the Mid-Missouri Mavericks of the Frontier League, blasting four home runs, driving in 49, and stealing 22 bases.
"Jake has done exactly what a player needs to do to be signed and that is basically to sit at the top of the league leaders in almost all offensive categories. That will attract attention," said Lumberjacks manager Kash Beauchamp. "A strong performance at the all-star game sealed the deal, and he is well deserving of this."
Whitesides will report to the Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic League, Chicago's High-A ball affiliate in North Carolina. The Intimidators are 16-10 in the second half.
