Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lancaster, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes won their first division title since 2003, as they defeated the Lancaster JetHawks on Sunday evening, wrapping up the Second Half South Division Title with an 11-4 win at The Hangar.

Gabe Jacobo capped an incredible individual year and Darwin Perez capped an incredible four-game series, as the Quakes scored double-digit runs for the second consecutive game, in setting a new regular-season record for wins in a season with 78.

Jacobo put the Quakes in the lead to stay at 3-0, with a first-inning three-run bomb against Lancaster starter Mike Modica (4-5), his team-high 22nd of the year.

Starter Mike Piazza, making the spot-start on a day where the bullpen figured to get a work-out, allowed just one run over four innings to set the Quakes up for the win.

Leading 4-1 in the fifth, Luis Jimenez delivered an RBI single to drive home Mike Trout, making it 5-1.

Mark Ori homered in the bottom of the inning against Quakes' reliever Baudilio Lopez, bringing the JetHawks to within three at 5-2.

The Quakes put the game out of reach, scoring four times in the seventh. Perez, who drove in 11 runs in the four-game series, singled home Jon Townsend to put the Quakes up 6-2. Jimenez followed with an RBI groundout for a 7-2 lead, as he brought home Alberto Rosario. Jacobo capped a five-RBI day with a two-run single to left, opening it up at 9-2.

The JetHawks battled back for two in the seventh, only to see the Quakes get those two runs back in the eighth. Trout's sac fly plated Angel Castillo, while Perez finished his two-hit day with his second RBI, a run-scoring single that chased home Richard Cates to make it 11-4.

Matt Oye (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings and was rewarded with his first win of the year, as he worked the final two innings.

The Quakes (39-31, 78-62) will open the 2010 post-season in Adelanto on Wednesday, taking on the High Desert Mavericks in the first game of the best-of-three series. The Epicenter will play host to games two and then three if necessary on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

No starting pitchers have been named yet for the post-season, but stay tuned to the website for more information.
