Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After two scoreless innings in Rancho Cucamonga, Lake Elsinore plated the first two runs of the game on a two-run home run by Beamer Weems in the 3rd inning.
Quakes starter Tim Schoeninger retired the first batter in the 4th, but allowed a solo home run to Danny Payne to give Lake Elsinore a 3-0 lead.
Schoeninger pitched well for the Quakes in his third start of the year, allowing just the three runs and scattered eight hits.
The Quakes offense struggled all night against Storm starter Wynn Pelzer who allowed no runs on just three hits while striking out seven.
But Rancho's offense came alive in the 9th inning. With one out, Rian Kiniry singled and Efren Navarro singled to put runners on first and second, and the Storm brought in Nick Vincent from the bullpen. Julio Perez then reached on a fielder's choice putting runners on the corners with two outs for Clay Fuller. On a 1-1 count, Fuller connect on his first home run at the Epicenter, a three-run, game tying shot, to bring the score even 3-3.
The bullpen was solid as well, with Steven Geltz and Taylor Wilding allowing just two hits over four innings to keep the Quakes close.
In the bottom of the 10th, Carlos Colmenares led off with a single and Alberto Rosario sacrificed him to second. PJ Phillips then struck out and Jeremy Moore drew an intentional walk to put runners on first and second with two outs. Rian Kiniry stepped up and worked the count to 2-2 before hitting a slider to the wall in right field to walk off with a 4-3 win against the Storm.
The Quakes will begin a three game series with Bakersfield on Friday with left-hander Robert Fish on the mound against left-hander Richard Bleier of the Blaze. Game time is scheduled for 7:35pm.
