Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA- Your dad always talked a big game about his athletic prowess in high school or college, but you never had a chance to put him to the test. Well, the Rawhide want to see what your dad is made of - by having him step into the batter's box against a former major leaguer!
This Father's day, the Visalia Rawhide are teaming up with US Too International, former San Francisco Giants pitcher Mike LaCoss, and his YES Foundation to raise money and awareness to battle prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men ages 45-75.
The first annual Father's Day Grand Slam Event will be a full day of activities for dads. LaCoss will take the mound to throw batting practice, and is anxious to see if anyone can take him deep. Batting practice will be followed by a time for families to enjoy pictures and a game of catch on the field, after which the dads will break off for a luncheon in our new Hall of Fame club. Fathers will also receive a BP jersey and 4 tickets to a future Rawhide game.
We've seen pink jerseys, pink bats, pink bracelets, and pink hats to raise awareness for breast cancer and those females that we love in our lives, but what about the dads, brothers, husbands, and sons? Every year over 232,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, and more than 30,000 will succumb to the disease. In fact, 1 in 6 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime. With those odds, you can be assured that you know or will know a male in your life that is challenged with this disease.
So why not do something about it? Have Dad dust off that old glove, make sure he stretches out, and sign him up for a day at the ballpark courtesy of the Rawhide. Who knows...he may just surprise you.
