Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - The improving JetHawks crossed another checkmark off their list Thursday night. Chris Hicks turned in a career-high six and 2/3 innings, helping Lancaster to a 6-1 win over Inland Empire and their first road series win of the season. The JetHawks have now won eight of their last 15 games and three of their last five contests on the road.

It was a pitcher's duel at the start as both Hicks and Inland Empire starter Steven Johnson were sharp. The 66ers committed an error to help the JetHawks break a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. The error was followed by a walk. Then, with two outs, Matt Weston smashed a homer over the right field wall to put Lancaster ahead 3-0.

The 66ers got a run back with a home run of their own in the fifth inning but that was all they would get off Hicks. He scattered seven hits without a walk in the longest outing of his young career to earn his fifth win. Erick Abreu struck out four batters while earning a save for the second straight night.

J.B. Shuck reached base safely three times and scored twice. His RBI double in the ninth inning extended his hit streak to eight games. Marcos Cabral was the only JetHawk with more than one hit as he collected a pair of singles while driving in a run.

The JetHawks continue the road trip Friday night in Adelanto against the Mavericks. Jack Tilghman (0-2) will pitch for Lancaster against Steven Hensley (2-1) of High Desert. The game will begin at 7:05 with the Pre-Game Show kicking of the radio broadcast at 6:50 on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.

The JetHawks will return to the Hangar Monday, June 15 to open a three-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
