Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Joc Pederson's RBI single broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth, putting the Quakes ahead to stay in Rancho's 4-2 win over Lake Elsinore on Thursday night at The Epicenter.
Tied at 2-2 in the eighth, Leon Landry led off with his league-high tenth triple of the season and second of the game. Pederson followed with a single through the hole on the right side against Storm reliever Alexis Lara (1-1), putting Rancho up 3-2. After Pederson was thrown out trying to steal, Angelo Songco gave the Quakes some insurance with a solo homer to right-center, his first of the year with the Quakes to make it 4-2.
Eric Eadington, who recorded the final four outs to earn a save on Wednesday, worked around a two-out single in the ninth to notch his 17th save in 18 tries this year.
The Quakes and Storm both scored some early runs, but settled into a nice pitcher's duel on Thursday evening.
Lake Elsinore scored two in the top of the first inning, for the third straight time in the series, as Justin Miller had an RBI groundout and Casey McElroy had a two-out RBI single for a 2-0 lead against Quakes' starter Andres Santiago.
Rancho battled back in the bottom of the first against Storm starter Burch Smith, as Landry tripled and scored on a Pedro Baez double, making it 2-1.
Landry tied it in the second, as he legged out an RBI infield single, plating Jonathan Garcia to even the game at 2-2.
Smith was removed after the fifth, while Santiago worked through the seventh, but neither pitcher would figure into the decision.
Jordan Roberts (6-0) threw a scoreless eighth and benefitted from the two-run bottom of the inning to net the win.
With their second straight win, the Quakes (12-16, 49-49) move to within six games of the Storm in the South Division Second Half Standings and to 2 ý games of Wild Card-leading Lancaster, who lost at home to San Jose on Thursday night. The JetHawks come to town on Friday to open a three-game set against the Quakes, with Garrett Gould (3-6) taking on Lancaster's David Martinez (3-4) in the series-opener at 7:05pm.
Friday is another Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, as hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches will be just $1 throughout the night. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
