Storm Fall Late 4-2, Fall in Series to Quakes

Rancho Cucamonga - On the third consecutive night the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, they once again couldn't hang onto the lead as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes scored two in the eighth to clinch the home series and win 4-2.

Donovan Tate scored a run in each game at The Epicenter and two stolen bases tonight put the Storm on board early. With the Storm ahead 1-0 after Rico Noel stole his 67th stolen base and was driven in by Justin Miller, Tate picked up a run on a Casey McElroy single to left.

In the bottom half of the inning, it was the speedster Leon Landry who hit his first triple of the night and his ninth of the season to lead off the inning. He would later score off a Pedro Baez double to left to cut the Storm lead in half.

In the second, Landry returned the favor to his offense hitting a single to second allowing Jonathan Garcia to score after earning a walk to tie the game at 2-2.

The remainder of the game became a pitching duel.

Andres Santiago went seven innings striking out eight Storm batters and retired 21 of 26 on the night.

Burch Smith went five innings allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven in the no decision performance. In July Smith 3-0 with a 2.14 ERA and in his previous nine starts he went 7-1 for the Storm.

In the eighth, Landry collected his second double of the night and his league leading 10th on the season and easily scored on a Joc Pederson single to right field for the lead. Rancho added an insurance run in the form of a solo home run by Angelo Songco to capture the series.

The Storm return to The Diamond on Friday for a night of fireworks on Children's Charities Night, Come as the Storm take on the Modesto Nuts and support local Children's Charities by bringing school supplies for a $5 game ticket! The San Diego Charger Girls will also be in attendance supporting the night.
