Lancaster JetHawks News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - David Martinez, Friday night's scheduled starter, was forced to come out of the bullpen so Ruben Alaniz could get a few innings of work in after coming off the disabled list. After entering the gaem in the fourth, Martinez tossed six scoreless to help the JetHawks to an 8-2 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at The Epicenter.

Martinez (4-4) allowed seven hits and struck out three while only issuing one walk. Alaniz allowed two runs on three hits in his three innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked two.

After the Quakes scored on a Pedro Baez RBI-double in the bottom of the first, the JetHawks came back with five runs in the second inning.

Chris Epps started the inning by reaching on a pop-up that dropped between four Quakes infielders. With one out Enrique Hernandez drove him with a two-run home run, his fifth of the season. Following the homer, Roberto Peña struck out but a passed ball allowed him to reach first. Alex Todd walked and Grant Hogue reached on an error to load the bases for George Springer. The centerfield knocked a two-run base hit to right and followed by helping Hogue steal home on a first-and-third double steal to give Lancaster a 5-1 lead.

In the sixth, Todd singled with two outs, stole second base and moved to third on a Hogue infield single. Starter Garrett Gould (3-7) was replaced by Scott McGough who allowed a RBI single to Springer. Springer proceeded to steal second base, one of three steals on the night for him. Hogue stole two and Todd stole one to give the JetHawks a season-high six steals in the game.

With the score 6-2 in the top of the ninth, the JetHawks got some insurance by way of a Domingo Santana two-run homer. Springer had started the inning by reaching on a Casio Grider error at shortstop and came around on Santana's 16th home run of the season and his third in the last four games.

Martinez stranded two Quakes runners in the ninth to finish the game. Rancho Cucamonga left a runner at second base in eight of the nine innings in the ball game and left 11 runners in all.

The JetHawks (15-13, 52-46) will take on the Quakes (12-17, 49-50) in game two of the series on Saturday night at The Epicenter. Tyson Perez (7-2, 5.30) will start against Angel Sanchez (6-7, 6.02). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
